We are very shocked and disappointed to hear that the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has cancelled the UK Partnerships for Health program that our friends in the Tropical Health and Education Trust have been managing. This scheme follows on from from previous schemes funded by the former Department for International Development. which were very well evaluated. There is strong evidence of effectiveness and value for money. This has come at a time when there is even more reason for solidarity between health workers across the globe, and a great desire to do more to help each other with global threats and inequities.
The UKPHS grant scheme had already launched in February this year. We are aware that several Welsh organisations will have prepared bids for this, which involves a significant amount of work for both partners at a time when they are more busy than ever. This will inevitably cause let down for health workers in both sides of international health partner ships.
If any partnership in Wales is affected by this, please do get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org We are working with THET and Hub Cymru Africa on advocacy against the FCDO cuts in aid which are so unfair and unwise.
